Say Cheese!

Since Haylee has been smiling so much the past couple of days, we found it hard to believe that it wasn't "real". I remember learning that when babies are first born they have a reflexive smile with the social smile coming later. I couldn't remember when that happened, but several people told me they thought it was after several months. This morning Haylee gave us a huge smile while Brad was getting ready for work. I searched on-line and several websites said that the social smile can start around 5 weeks. So...we aren't crazy. She really is smiling at us!!!!

1 month

I can't believe Haylee is a month old already! She has already brought so much joy to our lives. Her personality is coming out more and more each day and it's so much fun to be around her. In the mornings, she really enjoys playing on her mat.

They say that babies at this age don't have their social smile yet, but it sure looks like she has a good time to us! She also loves to make noises. When she's in a real good mood (usually while playing or right after a bath) she says "ahhhh" in a high pitch baby voice that we just think is the cutest thing ever. Of course, we're her parents so we think everything she does is cute. :) She's very much like me in that sometimes she likes to cuddle and be close to someone, but other times she just wants to be left alone. Here she is enjoying some lounge time by herself.

We are very excited to be taking our fist vacation as a family this weekend. We are leaving on Sunday for the Houston area and we'll be there until Wednesday. We're really looking forward to relaxing and visiting with some good friends that live down there.

Mother's Day

It still doesn't feel "real" to call myself a mother, but I feel blessed to be able to do so. Motherhood has been absolutely wonderful so far. Haylee is such a good baby! I had a great first Mother's Day. We went to lunch with Brad's family and hung out with them for a little while in the morning and early afternoon. Then we headed over to my parent's house for the evening and to have dinner. I realized that we hadn't taken a family picture yet, so we got one yesterday.

On Thursday we went for Haylee's 2 week appointment and they wanted her back up to birth weight. She did better than that, weighing in at 9 lbs 9 oz!! She's a good eater, just like her parents. :) She also had some newborn pictures done when she was 13 days old. They turned out really cute so I'll try to share those with you soon!

Life wtih baby

Haylee is still doing great and so are we! She has been such a good baby so far. She sleeps well, eats well (she's made breastfeeding easy), and poops well (ha!). She enjoys her baths, which right now just consist of a washcloth and water. We can start using body wash when she's 2 weeks old.

Brad is really enjoying his two weeks off. I think Haylee likes him being home too. :)

She goes for her two week check up on Thursday so we're anxious to she how much she is growing.
